Aluminum oxide
crystals have been the most commonly used abrasive agent for the last 20 years (no wonder they were so popular in microdermabrasion).
Aluminum oxide is the second hardest mineral (diamonds are first).
·
The irregular
crystal shape makes them a more effective abrader. Aluminum oxide is also an inert material and it causes no allergic or adverse
reactions. It is not toxic when ingested and is non-carcinogenic.
These crystals do not have jagged or sharp edges that
will cause micro
scrapes and cuts in your skin that will only become infected.
These
steps must be incorporated into your facial; otherwise it won't accomplish the desired results. Additional facial steps
include steaming, masking and exfoliating, but these are not required. In order for you to better understand the process of
at home facials we've provided step-by-step descriptions below.
1.
Steam Treatment (optional) - Before using
any product on your face,
applying gentle steam will open the pores and prepare your face for cleansing.
How
- Place a soft towel in a bowl of warm water (or herbal tea) and let it soak for 2 to 3 minutes. Wring out the towel out and
place it over your face and neck for 4 to 5 minutes.
2.
Cleansing (required) - Cleansing your face will unclog the pores and leave
the skin feeling revitalized and fresh. Cleansing will also remove any excess oil (sebum) that has been left on your
face. It is an absolute must to cleanse your face with your daily cleanser prior to using our scrub. Also wash your
hands before each cleansing or scrubbing. This will minimize addin and spreading around bacteria that may be on your face
or hands....
How - Use a small amount of our facial scrub and smooth it over the face
in circular, upwards motions. A little goes a long way. If you need the scrub to be thinner, simply add a little water to
your hand and continue to gently circulate. Allow scrub gel to dry for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. Rinse with warm water
and gently pat dry with a soft towel or allow to air dry. Your skin will be extremely sensitive and dry beause you have just
removed a few layers of skin and all of your facial oils have been eliminated. Use our Vanish Triple refined emu oil to re
nourish your skin promptly. Vanish will not clog your pores and will minimize your skins pink or redness following
your scrub...
3. Toning - If you skin is ultra sensitive after your scrub it is advised
that you wait until the
sensitivity subsides before applying toner... Vanish will help at this stage. Toning helps balance the pH of the skin.
It gives skin a firm, healthy, clean glow.
How - Apply toner to the face using a soft cotton
ball or pad.
Dab the face, but do not rub the face as pulling can damage
the skin and cause wrinkles.
4. Moisturizing
(required) - Moisturizing softens and adds hydration and nutrients to the skin. Moisturizing is very important and disregarding
this step
can ruin the results of your facial.
How - Apply moisturizer to your skin while it's still damp from the toner. Gently apply the moisturizer to your face
in dabbing motions or roll on with our Vanish Roll On Applicator. Wet your hand with cool water before spreading emu oil.
This helps to spread the oil without pulling, pushing and tugging on your skin. Again, never rub lotions, creams or oils into
the face as rubbing can cause wrinkles. Let moisturizer sink into your skin, don't rinse off.
An alternative to the traditional blast procedure is a gel or two-step
home system. Some cosmetic companies use the white aluminum oxide particles for the abrasive component in their products.
The results can be very similar to the spa or medical procedure; it just takes more treatments.
It is critical
that the abrasion media be a material which contaminate free, thus the reason why white
aluminum oxide is the preferred choice of most manufacturers.
White aluminum oxide is an ultra-pure grade - 99.5% contaminate
free and
contains less that 0.2% silica making it safer to use than even sand.
Why try Microdermabrasion?
As we get older, our body no longer has the ability
to effectively slough off the
dead top layer of skin (stratum corneum) as it did when we were young. Because
of
this our skin starts looking dull, lifeless
and rough while the pores can become clogged causing breakouts.
If you have mild or light scarring from acne or fine lines and wrinkles, you may be a candidate for microdermabrasion. By
having a series of treatments, many fine lines, wrinkles, skin discolorations and
light scars will be lessened if not
removed.
Most people see results after their first microdermabrasion treatment; their skin looks fresher, revived,
and more alive. With each treatment, your skin will become clearer, softer and regain the youthful appearance it once had.
Although the at-home creams and the office or spa microdermabrasion procedures
have some basic similarities,
there are very specific and important differences.
Similarities include:
- Exfoliating dead skin cells
- Improving skins appearance
- Use
of white aluminum oxide media as the abrasive
Differences are:
- Office or spa procedures are performed with equipment by a technician
- The corundum is a much finer (smaller) grade than in creams
- The traditional procedure is more effective
- Only one procedure every two months traditionally vs. Once or twice weekly
- The degree of abrasion can be regulated with office and spa
procedures
Tips
and Hints on Microdermabrasion
Be
sure to apply toner, moisturizer and sun screen immediately after a
microdermabrasion treatment - whether it was a procedure
or at home products.
Avoid exposing the treated skin to direct sunlight
(7 days if procedure, 1 day if at
home).
Expect some redness after microdermabrasion; it should go away within a few hours.
Do not use
a complete face of make-up for 24 hours after having the procedure.
Do not use alpha-hydroxy acid or glycolic acid
products or skin exfoliation
scrubs for at least 72 hours after a microdermabrasion procedure.
The one thing
to remember is take care of your skin - always.
Microdermabrasion gives you the chance to help erase the mistakes of
poor
skin care. Use a good skin care regimen and protect your skin from the sun
and weather. This coupled with
regular microdermabrasion treatments using
high quality products and procedures will restore the youthful appearance
and
glow your skin once had.
